Sophia Lau will speak at CenterForce USA’s “Driving Diversity in Law and Leadership Summit” taking place on September 21, 2023, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel’s Gold Ballroom in Los Angeles, California. The annual conference is a part of the organization’s ongoing series to raise awareness of DEI initiatives in the legal profession.
Sophia’s panel, entitled “Code-Switching: Shifting the Way We Communicate and Present Ourselves in the Workplace,” will explore how women and other underrepresented groups can combat bias and judgments surrounding their identity in the workplace. It will further touch on the role of both leaders and individuals in creating a safe professional environment where authenticity and diversity are embraced and celebrated.
The panel will take place in person at 11:55 a.m. PST and features additional legal professionals across a variety of industries. The Firm is also a proud sponsor of the summit and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal sector.

On April 20, 2022, Devin McRae attended Variety’s “Power of Law Breakfast,” an invitation-only event honoring attorneys selected to Variety’s annual “Legal Impact Report.” Attendees of the event and honorees of the “Legal Impact Report” are considered top attorneys in the entertainment business, and they are celebrated for their contributions to the entertainment industry and their handling of high-profile, influential matters for agencies, studios and networks. In his “Legal Impact Report” profile, Devin is recognized for his work this last year including a notable multi-million dollar jury verdict for actress Shannen Doherty.

Bryan Sullivan was a panelist for “Customization: The Key to Best Practices and Unique Approaches When Evaluating Consumer Product Safety” at The International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization’s 2021 annual symposium. The Annual Symposium features sessions that include discussion on international product safety trends and developments in product health and safety, on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and its product safety activities, and on basic training in legal and compliance-oriented aspects of product health and safety.
Bryan’s session presented best practices and unique testing strategies for all stages of a product’s life-cycle, from initial testing during product formulation, safety testing of the formulated product, to post-market surveillance. Case studies demonstrating the utility of combining both traditional and unique product testing solutions were also presented, along with strategies for customizing product testing to meet the fluid demands of ensuring product safety along the product’s entire life-cycle.

Steve Ma recently spoke as a panelist for a webinar hosted by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) entitled “Hot Topics in Trademark and Copyright Law.” Steve’s presentation including analysis and commentary regarding the recent “Blurred Lines” appellate decision (Pharrell Williams v. Frankie Christian Gaye, et al., 885 F. 3d 1150 (9th Circuit 2018); the proposed California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018; and Blockchain applications in entertainment and digital media. Steve currently serves as Co-Chair of NAPABA’s Entertainment Law Committee.

During the panel, copyright experts Devin McRae of Early Sullivan, Robert Rotstein of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP and Aaron J. Moss of Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger LLP discussed the complex issues of copyright, contract, and unfair competition at hand in the ongoing lawsuit between Disney and Redbox over the latter’s selling of digital movie codes.
