Bryan Sullivan Guest Lectures at Chapman University

On September 15, 2015, Bryan Sullivan was a guest lecturer at Chapman University, at the invitation of screenwriter, Dan Petrie, Jr., discussing strategies for the acquisition of rights for the film industry.  Mr. Sullivan outlined strategies for the independent film producer to obtain the rights to content for adapting to film or television projects.  The lecture also involved copyright issues, background on defamation claims, and acquisition of life story rights.

Orly Ravid to Speak at 2015 Annual Business of Film Conference

Orly Ravid will be a panelist on “Paradigm Lost: The New World of Film Distribution” at the 11th Annual Business of Film Conference on September 19, 2015. Presented by Southwest Alternative Media Project (SWAMP), the event brings together industry professionals from across the country to discuss current trends in the production and distribution of film.

Orly Ravid an “Expert” at LAGFF 3rd International Project Discovery Forum and a Panelist at The Edinburgh Pitch

Orly Ravid will be an “Expert” at The International Project Discovery Forum, the industry program of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, and a panelist at The Edinburgh Pitch. As an International Project Discovery Forum “Expert,” she will speak on the International Distribution Panel and help the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival identify films that have an original approach, made by independent producers and filmmakers that have a unique voice.

As a panelist at The Edinburgh Pitch, Orly will be judging pitches by independent filmmakers and companies that are developing and attracting financing for creative feature documentaries. 12 international filmmakers/producers with feature documentary projects are invited to pitch in front of a carefully selected panel consisting of commissioning editors, funding bodies, sales agents, distributors, festival programmers and producers. ARTE, BBC Storyville, POV, Tribeca, Women Make Movies, Autlook Filmsales and Dogwoof are among regular guests, and projects like ‘Waiting for August’, ‘Chuck Norris vs Communism’, ‘The Trial’ and ‘The Punk Syndrome’ were pitched in Edinburgh the past few years.

Stephen Ma moderated a panel, sponsored by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s (NAPABA) Entertainment Law Committee, entitled “Anatomy of Cross-Media Entertainment Production: Legal Perspectives on Bringing a Blockbuster from Idea to Market,” at NAPABA’s 2014 Annual Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona. This year’s panel also featured Andrew Chang, General Counsel of DreamWorks Animation; Mel Avanzado, Principal of The Avanzado Law Firm; and Michele Wong, Senior Attorney of Microsoft Xbox Studios. Stephen Ma was a speaker at U.S.-Korea Law Foundation’s 2014 US-Korea Law Day, which was held at Kia Motors in Irvine, California. Stephen’s presentation centered around his recent U.S.-Korea Law Journal article: “The Attorney-Client Privilege: Implications of the Differences between U.S. and Korea Law,” which he co-authored with Susan Myers of Hyundai Capital America and Won Hee Cho of Korean law firm Bae Kim & Lee, LLC. Stephen also served on the Planning Committee for the KIA Motors event.
